You and your dogs have lodging options with pet friendly motel chains

Owners of pets who are going on a vacation have a few options for what to do with their pets while they are traveling. Two of the common options are taking the dog or cat with them on the trip and staying in pet friendly hotels or using a pet boarding service, either close to their home or a location near the hotel where they stay. The size and type of pet that you have might make one or the other of these options more applicable.

Pets that do not travel well might be best left in a boarding location or with a pet sitter. Occasionally, bigger pets are not always welcome even in many dog friendly hotels, since they sometimes have weight limits for the pets that are allowed to stay with them. Therefore, if you make the decision to travel with these pets, you will have to do a bit more searching to find an appropriate hotel. Thankfully, a few of the websites that list hotels that are willing to allow pets allow you to filter just those hotels that accept large pets. Finding pet boarding close to your motel is another option, since you could still be able to spend time with your dog even if it can’t stay with you.

The following is a list of some major hotel chains which claim to be pet friendly:

Clarion Inn & Suites
Comfort Inn & Suites
Courtyard by Marriott
Fairfield Inn by Marriott
Kimpton
Marriott Hotels & Resorts
Quality Inn
Red Roof Inn
Renaissance Hotels & Suites
Sleep Inn
Studio 6

{In case you’ve had no luck finding pet friendly accommodations for you and your pet}, but feel bad about boarding your dog, there are now a lot of locations with special pet hotels that go to great lengths to spoil your pets while they are there. Perhaps this is a good “in between” choice for you. Your pet might enjoy the many services these places offer, and you don’t need to feel bad that you couldn’t have your dog with you for your trip.

If you are undecided on which option to choose, there are a lot of different resources on the internet you can use to find the best options for dog friendly lodging, pet motels, and boarding services. Occasionally, even when there is a hotel that will take your pet, it is better to leave them behind with a blanket and some organic pet treats due to travel stresses. An international trip could be very difficult on your dog, for example, and there are a lot of immigration rules to consider. PetTravel.com is a one place to find answers to questions on these issues. Sometimes, it is required that dogs be quarantined for a while, so a short trip overseas might be best left for only the family.
